Richard R Ramos
Overcoming the obstacles of barrio youth gangs, drugs, and violence, Richard is a nationally recognized author, speaker, and leadership trainer with over 30 years of experience empowering families, leaders, and communities. As the founder of Parents on a Mission, he has trained over 2,000 parent mentors to break cycles of violence, restore relationships, and become transformational leaders in their homes and neighborhoods. His passion stems from personal experience, growing up surrounded by gangs and violence, and choosing to become part of the solution rather than the problem. Today, he continues to inspire and equip individuals to be the change their families and communities need.
What people are saying…
“The knowledge obtained provided me a totally different way of looking at parents and children’s behavior…I can’t express enough how thankful I am to have taken your training… I wish I would have had this training before I became a parent.”
– Maria B., Senior Organizer, CentroCHA nonprofit, Long Beach, CA
“Parents on a Mission is one of the most sought-out programs offered at La Vista Correctional Facility. I have seen this program completely change lives and redirect their thinking. I believe in this program 100%. It is an honor to be able to teach this class to our offender population.”
– Officer Christina Aiello, Pueblo, CO
“The Parents on a Mission program is a transforming agent for young men and women in our community. Countless lives have already been changed for the better and affected for the future by being exposed to this material.”
– Daniel D. Lopez, Outreach Specialist, Garden Pathways, Bakersfield, CA
“Mr. Ramos…I am forever grateful to you for this program. Wednesday night POM classes… was the greatest thing that could have happened to my family… If classes had not started when they did, I would be in jail, my daughter would have attempted or committed suicide, or my kids would have been taken by Child Welfare Services…You may not realize it, but you saved my family!”
– Adrianna Guzman, Santa Maria, CA
It does NOT take a village to raise a child…it just takes good parenting.
Creating safe neighborhoods and safe communities is NOT the responsibility of the President of the United States. Neither is it the responsibility of the Police, Schools, or Politicians. Community safety is the responsibility of parents. In my Parents on a Mission (POM) program I consistently encourage parents that they are the number one asset in the community…they are the most important person in the community-not the police, pastor, priest, principal of the school, or politicians-parents are in the best position to determine the health and safety of the community since it is they who have the future citizens under their care to nurture, discipline, and provide guidance during the most impressionable years of a child’s life.
“At the age of 11 I got involved with the juvenile criminal justice system. Richard Ramos was one of the few people in my life that was supportive and unconditional. He would come to my house any time my mother was having difficulty with me. He would hunt me down on the streets to get me to school or back home. With the support of Mr. Ramos I was able to transition from offender to a young woman ready to take on the world…”
